Polite Notice

Please can you remind the children that before we start the session not to go racing around the car parks at either of the venues lots of others use the car parks and might not be aware of bikes in the car parks and we wouldn’t want anyone getting hurt.

Now the weather has turned hot might be a good idea to change the warm stuff for sun cream and make sure a drink is on hand, let enjoy the sun whilst it’s here.

Saturday Sessions

Saturday sessions continue to run at UAK (formally Greenhead School Keighley) 10am – 11:30am

Roller/turbo sessions

What a success this was, this is the 1st time we have done this and was a learning curve for us all as we didn’t know how it would take off or if the children would enjoy it. The children took to it really quickly and well with some adults joining in as we got going. We had nearly 30 riders taking part in some of these sessions.
This session has now finished for the summer sessions to run outside but will be back in September, when hopefully we can invite more riders to join in these sessions.

Everyone at Bronte Tykes hopes you’ve had a great Christmas and New Year break, and we look forward to welcoming you back to our sessions.

Following a successful 2015, where we experience phenomenal growth and really progressed as a club, we are looking to build on that in 2016. That success wouldn’t have been possible without the support of all club members and parents – thank you!

This year we’ve got loads of exciting things lined up, and we’ve made a few changes to our programme which means the club really has got something for everyone.

We’ve changed the times of our Saturday morning sessions at UAK. These are now held at the earlier time, from 10am to 11:30am. This is in response to feedback from parents, and members who said the current session was either too late, or clashed with other activities and lunchtimes!

The first Saturday session is Saturday 16th January.

Monday nights indoor rollers and turbo sessions continue a UAK, 6:15pm – 7:15pm. The cost of which is £2 for members, £3 for non-members. The last indoor session is Monday 21st March. Adult members / parents are welcome to attend these session – just let us know beforehand if you need to borrow rollers or turbo’s.

Due to problems with the horrific weather, and the low turnout for the outdoor Monday sessions at UAK we feel it’s not viable to continue these sessions until we move to Marley after Easter.

Our Summer programme starts on Monday 4th April, when we’ll be at Marley every Monday until the end of September, except Bank Holidays! These sessions will run 6:30pm – 7:30pm, and are suitable for all our riders. The cost of these sessions will be £2.

The Saturday sessions at UAK will continue right through the year, 10 – 11:30am.

For riders over 9 years of age, the club is registering for the Yorkshire track cluster days. These are sessions held every 6 weeks, at the Velodrome in Manchester. They offer riders a chance to ride the Velodrome, and ultimately progress to track accreditation where they can race. The cost is £15, for a 3hr session, and includes bike and helmet hire. There are a limited number of places per club, so we’ll offer them out on a rotational basis to first claim members to ensure fairness. We’ll give you further details on this when we have them!

We are due to take delivery of 5 “Scatto icross” cycles in the next few weeks. These have been purchased from our partners at Paul Milnes Cycles, and will be loaned out to riders wanting to experience racing, in need of a move to a bigger bike, or riders reaching a level where they need a race bike to progress further. There is a loan agreement to sign, with some conditions about the care and maintenance – we’ll let you have a read of it fully before you sign up.

If you’ve been missing regular racing, there’s more coming up!
24th Jan is the YCCA Winter series final round, details on our page already
27th Feb – this is when we’ve rescheduled the Go Ride race that we had to cancel on the 9th January – sign on from 9:15am at UAK, racing starts at 10am
28th Feb – British Schools Cycling Association, Yorkshire Region Cyclocross Race. There’s a separate post on our pages about this, but most importantly you need a race licence to enter – the club are applying for these but we need your details by the end of this week if you haven’t already done so.
We’ll be organising a summer series of Go Ride races, and the YCCA Summer Series will start on Wednesday nights from May

We’re also hoping to be able to offer some Bikeability Courses in the school holidays, so if you want to polish up your skills these will be ideal for you – we’ll give further details when we’ve finalised our plans.

Club membership is now due – this runs from 1st Jan to 31st Dec, and costs £5 per child, £10 per adult for the year. Family memberships are available for £20, with the adults being registered with Bronte Wheelers and the children being with Bronte Tykes.

Membership forms are available to download on our membership area
One form is needed per member.

Payments can be made in cash, or via online banking, account number 64866181, sort code 536130. Please put your name as reference.

Clubmark Accreditation

Today Bronte Tykes Cycling Club has been awarded its Clubmark Accreditation. This is the universally acknowledged cross sport accreditation scheme for community sports clubs! This formalises the good work that the club and its volunteers have been carrying out over the past 12 months! The club is a Friendly, Welcoming and Progressive club for young cyclists! So spread the word – we are here to stay, we are here to enjoy riding bikes, we are here to win… We are the Bronte Tykes Cycling Club! All are welcome to our wonderful little corner of cycling utopia.

Next week see’s the 1st of our winter go ride races, please note the earlier time for next week.

Signing on opens at 9:15 this is in the school at the bottom car park please don’t allow the children to ride the bikes in the entrance as this can cause some obstruction to others using the school building Thank you. Races start at 10am in the park hope to see you there.
