MTB Session – St Ives

This Saturday is the MTB session for the older riders. This will be a guided ride from St Ives, Bingley BD16 1AT. please arrive at 1:15 with the session running between 1:30 and 3:30. We will meet in the carpark by the toilets at the top of the play area. The forecast is cool so please make sure you have a long armed top/bottoms, long fingered gloves, jacket, drink and snack. A spare tube and means to change it would also be handy. If there are any other parents that can ride please comment below.

For the younger group (usually coached by Peter/Steve/Lucy/Chris. This session will be at Cliffe Castle arrive at 10:00 for a 10:15 start. The session will run until 11:30 as usual. Note for parents…..Please make sure you do not leave your young rider and are available throughout the session.


Saturday Training Session and the Cooler Weather

Just a quick reminder regarding future Saturdays sessions at UAK. As mentioned in the recent newsletter we are now going to be meeting in the carpark at Cliffe Castle off Spring Gardens Lane, BD20 6LH. Parents please warn your children this is a public car park and can get very busy so please be cautious when riding in here.
The cafe will be also be open for you to get warm drinks and food. This starts this Saturday and will apply to all future Saturday sessions that would normally be at UAK.

In addition, we are now moving towards some cooler weather. Please can you make sure all riders have long fingered gloves, long leg pants, long sleeves and a waterproof jacket when required. As always please make sure all riders have a drink and snack.


Closed Road Circuit Session

This Saturday is the return of the road session! This session is open to all riders from all groups including scholarship. The session is at the Steven Burke Sports Hub with Access from Wilton Street, Barrowford BB9 8PU. The session this time is from 1:30 – 2:30 and £3 per rider. Please make sure all riders have short fingered gloves, a drink and a snack. See you there 👍



Winter Cross is Here

Winter Cross is coming!

It’s time to dig out your camping chairs, flasks, wellies, umbrella’s, big bobble hats, gloves, thermals, buy some soup and hot chocolate.

I hope you have cleared your diary?

Get ready for mud, cold, weekend of cleaning bikes/bike kit after getting muddy.

If you’ve not been to a winter cross race before come prepared for lots of mud, cold and most of all fun and socialising.
so on that note the calendar has been updated to keep you busy please take a look at the dates with the 1st race starting on 2nd September.

If anyone is wanting to order club jackets, zip off trousers, or hoodies, these are very useful for the winter cross.We can arrange for them to be at the sessions to look at, please comment if you would like to look at them.

If anyone’s not sure what happens at the races please speak to one of the coaches or volunteers who will be happy to answer any questions you or you child may have.

Bronte Tykes Scholarship 2018

Bronte Tykes Junior CC are excited to announce the 2018 Rider Development Scholarship Programme.

Our annual scholarship scheme is targeted at 1st claim Tykes members in the British Cycling youth categories A, B, and 2nd Year C (riders of Secondary School age).

We want riders that are good Ambassadors for the club, who want to help and inspire our younger riders develop and who will race regularly and represent the club. You need to be keen and motivated to develop your cycling and be prepared to take part in scholarship specific training sessions.

Don’t worry if you fall outside of the age criteria this year. Our scholarship scheme is a rolling programme and as always, we’ll be taking applications every 12 months and adding to the squad.

For this year, we have up to 3 places available, anyone wanting to apply needs to do so in writing, sending their completed application letter to, before the closing date – 5pm on the Sunday 9th September 2018.

Applications will be reviewed by a group of our coaches, independent of any person applying, then compared against set criteria including race results and commitment to the club. Successful applicants will be awarded Scholarship status at our Club party and awards night on the Saturday 22nd September.

A Scholarship place entitles you to
• An individual training plan
• Scholarship apparel
• A Tykes skinsuit for racing (If required)
• Payment of race entry fees for National races identified in your individual competition & training plan

• Use of a club purchased Paul Milnes Strada carbon road bike for a 12-month period, geared to your individual category restrictions (If required)

The scheme is designed to assist in the development and retention of our older riders and provide a goal for our younger riders to aim to.
To apply, you need a letter which covers:
• Why you think you should be considered for a place
• Your racing plans for the next 12 months, and what disciplines you plan to participate in (CX, Circuit, Road, Track etc)
• Details of best racing results over past 12 months
• Any additional supporting evidence you feel will assist your application.

Places will again be awarded on the information contained in your application only, not any previous knowledge of the candidates from training sessions or outside of the club, so it’s important you submit a good quality application.
